Well after a thaw with a lot of rain just after Christmas I expected to find the rink overflowing. Again it seems like something comes up every year to try and ruin the rink. A leak developed and not only did I loose the rain water but the ice also melted to expose a high spot. I found a small cut about 1/2 inch long below water level at the base of the boards. I was able to patch this but don't know if this is the only hole. For now the ice is frozen thru but another thaw is coming. Hopefully we'll get more water in with no more leaks. For now we just skate around the exposed area. This also points out where I need to shave a few inches off the ground next summer.

The first 2 weeks of January have been lost. Squeezed in a day or two but for the most part warm and rainy. Ice still in pretty good shape and just waiting for some cold.

Feb 5,2006. Well That does it! With only 2 or 3 days of skating in January the last 3 weeks of super warm temps have killed the rink beyond repair. I can't figure out where the liner was leaking but at some point after freezing in December a leak formed below the water line. With all the recent rain it should have been overflowing. Instead plastic liner and bare spots abound. Of course the temps will most likely drop this month just to spite us.
